It should be the safest railway tunnel ever built by a mountain. But already done in the construction uncanny things underground in the route: Electronic devices go haywire, an unnatural silence dominates the inside of the mountain, Loren, covered over with frost, become self-employed, and then there's the time to unexplained as shifts. Frank Warstein, chief engineer and computer specialist of the construction site, suspects that these things have anything to do with the sinister stranger, who describes himself as a druid, and shows up at irregular intervals on the ground and scares his workers. Only three people predicted the stranger can save the world yet. A man of knowledge. A sighted person. And a lover.
Although Warstein felt a mild discomfort irrational way he drives the continued building of the tunnel and ignore the warning - and the unbelievable takes its course.
years later, the tunnel is already completed, is not he Warstein Marked itself of those events in the tunnel route, he languishing as an alcoholic in his one-bedroom apartment there. The only company that still bears Warstein is that his cat Vlad, who lived prior to his entry into the apartment.
Warstein seems to end with his life have, as the mountain awoke again: One day, a young woman in front of his door, told him of the maiden voyage of an ICE through the tunnel route, where all passengers were killed. The press speaks of a terrorist attack. No one wants to admit that the unthinkable has happened again. No one should know that ICE and its passengers are inexplicably aged for two hundred years. Warstein only guess that this is only the first indication that inside the mountain again threatening going on. If the Bible is right, remembers Warstein, and emerged from a lump of clay is life, why should it be otherwise in a mountain? A mountain with confidence? But how is a creature connect, whose thoughts last a lifetime, as an intelligence contact, we do not even recognize as a living creature?
help the young woman and a reporter from the tabloid media makes Warstein in search: A man of knowledge. A sighted person. And a lover. Who are these three people and they will find each other in time to the elemental force to stop?
The first thing that struck me when reading the summary of "The Druidentor" to mind was JR Tolkien's phrase: "The dwarves have dug too deep." This is the end but also the similarity to Tolkien. Right at the beginning of the book I was sucked into the story inside. Hollow leg has not much time on introductions, the tension is kept continuously high. In a time when you could smoke on planes yet and the ICE was considered a miracle on rails, like one or the other this mix of science fiction and fantasy story appear dusty a little, I felt for my part it refreshing, immerse themselves in this fable of the nature of time in which there were no mobile phones and e-mails. The more I learned from Frank Warstein life, the more sympathetic I was a former engineering graduate.
learns Early on the reader from the inner turmoil that Warstein dominated the early stages of the tunnel. alter the nature of human aesthetic standards, we learn from Warstein, was not only a morally reprehensible but also a very risky thing. Again and again Warstein realize that they are committing to the construction of the tunnel a crime, and sometimes it shoots through his mind that this crime will one day be avenged.
With "The Druidentor" presented by Wolfgang Hohlbein an exciting science fiction / fantasy novel. It represents not only the technology blind faith of mankind in a critical light, he also addresses the immediate environmental issues such as the destruction and the exploitation of nature by humans, the technical progress to whatever the question.
The information on the author's website that the novel is for young people aged 16 years may be an explanation why the language is to consume a direct and straightforward and fast. The pages fly by reading the only way there, you feel to the text structure that here someone understands his business, we sense the whole, however, unfortunately, a little of the routine here and there by the sentences passed shines: the dialogue seemed to me sometimes to be ground, almost a sure-fire - one reads a sentence and know before we have crossed the line as the dialogue ends. Added cliché-laden actors: the surly cop who sensationalist Reporter of a tabloid, the battered, alcohol-soaked hero, the wise druid with the snow-white hair.
The characters are drawn, unfortunately, as templates, one-dimensional and for me without real recognition. But here is referred to the name of the author that reading for young people aged 16 years is recommended and may be provided for this reason, for quick and easy consumption is.
I had no time to bother me in the deal described surrounding areas. The unobtrusive style of writing draws much of Stephen King on - the same sophistication as regards the plot, good grips Detail and always a good nose for the right timing.
A story with many flashbacks - the events of that time during the tunnel are constructed of Warstein memory - a great skill required by the author in order to keep things exciting on a high level. Hohlbein manage this balancing act between past and present with ease, and more: As a reader from completely immersed and forget time and space.
Wolfgang Hohlbein is a guarantee of solid, exciting entertainment. The "Druidentor" is a fascinating read that I would always recommend a train trip or vacation.
